The leaderboard entering the weekend of the 2025 PGA Championship is bunched up, with 25 players starting Saturday within five strokes of Jhonattan Vegas’s lead. But that’s not a wide enough net for who could force a playoff, as the most recent time the PGA Championship went to extras, as Justin Thomas overcame a seven-stroke deficit to beat Will Zalatoris in a three-hole playoff at Southern Hills in 2022.

A potential playoff makes the leaders take an extra drive through Quail Hollow’s Green Mile to earn the Wanamaker Trophy.
If there is a tie for the lead after 72 holes in the PGA Championship, the three-hole aggregate playoff remains the same since it was introduced in 2000. In the event of a tie for first place after 72 holes, there will be a three-hole aggregate score playoff on holes #16, #17 and #18. If still tied, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff on hole #18, #16, #17 and #18 repeated.
