The 63 is the magic number in major championship golf — a score so rare it carries its own mythology. Kurt Kitayama kicked off the final round of the 2026 PGA Championship with an impressive addition to this list in early action.

A Few Notable Facts

Brad Faxon's 63 at Riviera in 1995 included a front-nine 28 — still the lowest nine-hole score in PGA Championship history.

Brooks Koepka is the only player to shoot 63 twice, doing it in back-to-back years (2018 and 2019). He won both times.

Jason Dufner's 63 at Oak Hill in 2013 was the 26th round of 63 in major championship history, and he went on to win the title — becoming the sixth player to win a major after posting a 63.

The 62s by Lowry and Schauffele both came in the same year (2024) at the same venue (Valhalla), making it the most historically significant scoring day in PGA Championship history.
